Today we are introducing you to another WEDExpert – the luxury wedding planner Chenai Bukutu from By Chenai Events, based in London, who shares more about her business.
WG: Tell us about your journey into the wedding business?
CB: I studied International Business at university and have a much more corporate background, specifically in supply chain management. I did, however, always know that I wanted to do something that combined my love of hosting, celebrating and, as a natural extrovert, working closely with people. Wedding planning wasn’t something I believed you could do as a profession until I started researching and understanding that wedding planners are not an extravagance reserved for fictional characters in Hollywood romcoms. These days, so many couples who don’t have the time or the right experience will turn to a professional to help them create their dream day; they also want to be inspired and be supported in creating lasting experiences for their guests. Researching the industry thoroughly helped me understand what it would take to create a thriving business, as well as who my ideal client would be and what type of events I wanted to plan.

WG: What type of couples do you work with?
CB: No two events of ours will ever look the same. I work with my clients to make their wedding or party uniquely theirs, incorporating thoughtful and luxurious details without ostentation. Our clients are a stylish, multicultural bunch who are drawn to the aesthetics and, at the core, are after a really great party. The overall experience is paramount, from food to music, to the decor and details. With us, the emphasis is placed on guiding our clients to creating truly memorable parties that their friends and family will keep talking about for ages.

WG: What do you love about weddings?
CB: I started my business out of a love for joyful celebration. I grew up in a household where milestone moments were celebrated, joy was a key component and I love to see families and friends come together in this way. I also really love the element of event design and the opportunity to be creative, curating and creating experiences for my couples is one of the most enjoyable parts of my role. As my business grows, the opportunity to work with clients on projects in exciting and exotic locations is also a bonus.
WG: We love this! Tell our readers 5 interesting facts about you!
CB: I love cooking, I’m a bit of a foodie and I host a Supper Club in West London once a year. I was in a Colgate commercial when I was 10. I was born and raised in Zimbabwe but I’ve lived in a few countries including Mexico during University. I’ve never seen Star Wars! However, I would love to go to space!
